The girl with the dark hair (La fille aux cheveux noirs) is a tribute to Claude Debussy. I heard a piece by Debussy on the piano and I was instantly inspired to compose a piece that didn’t have a pronounced melody but was based on harmonies and sounds and the feelings it could give the listener. My “goal” was to make a beautiful sounding piece that couldn’t have lyrics to it…
